Busy Weekend

Well, it's been a busy weekend! I took leave for the weekend to spend some good family time together before I leave. I was on break Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday was pretty unremarkable, we didn't do much of anything. Thursday, we got up and took the kids to the zoo in Sacramento. They had a good time, it wasn't the greatest for us. It is a small zoo and doesn't have a huge number of exhibits. The girls had fun though. We got done with the zoo right around lunch time and had a picnic lunch in the park. After lunch, we came home and relaxed.

Friday we didn't do a whole lot either during the day. The girls played and we got a few things cleaned up around the house. Cassie and I also took my car in and got the oil changed. We also made a batch of peach jam and it came out frothy. It tastes fine but doesn't look so pretty. Friday evening, Liz and I got a babysitter and went out for an evening alone. We found a nice steakhouse in Roseville and ate entirely too much! We figured out that it had been well over a year since we had been out for dinner alone, it was high time to get it done!

Saturday was clean the house and do the laundry for the most part. I made another batch of peach jam and discovered that the trick to avoiding the foam is adding a little butter to the fruit just before adding the sugar! The second batch turned out much better, it tasted the same, but has a better aesthetic appeal. I made burgers for supper and Liz and I watched a movie.

Today was pretty much a relax day. We got up and went to second service at church. We came home and ate lunch and then watched the Olympics, downloaded music and Liz even got a good nap in. That has pretty much been our weekend. It's been nice to have the extra time with the family before an extended separation.
