Fire update

For anyone who is wondering, Northern California is still on fire. The last count I heard was that there were over 800 fires burning. Apparently there was a freak lightning storm over the weekend that sparked most of the fires. It is incredibly dry, so it doesn't take much to get one going. We have had a couple on base, and I am waiting for some idiot to flick a cigarette butt and start a big one. The housing area makes me nervous since it is surrounded by thick, dry grass. The unfortunate by-product of fire is smoke, and the air has been heavy with it. Staying indoors except for short periods has been encouraged on radio and TV. The by-product that I can live with has been the spectacular sunsets! That's it for today, more to follow.
